Public Relations and Communications

The importance of the dialogue with the public was first recognised in the merit in 1992, when the Social Control and Information Association (TEIT) was established upon the initiation of Paks Nuclear Power Plant, with the involvement of 13 Local Governments. The founding members are as follows: Kalocsa, Paks, Uszód, Dunaszentbenedek, Foktő, Dunaszentgyörgy, Fadd, Pusztahencse, Gerjen, Tengelic, Bátya, Géderlak, Ordas.

Paks Nuclear Power Plant endeavoured to inspire the public with confidence and to obtain public acceptance for the construction of the Interim Spent Fuel Store.

It was definitely stated by the Local Governments organised into the TEIT that, if it was required to construct the store facility and if it would need to be continuously extended, it should take place while ensuring the greatest feeling of safety of the population. At the same time, the Local Governments should receive appropriate financial support. Accordingly, financial support is provided through the Association to the Local Governments from the Central Nuclear Fund, in a rate corresponding to the extension of the ISFS facility. The work of TEIT demonstrated that the Local Governments could work successfully together in the enforcement of their interest, for the confidence of the public.

In collaboration with the professionals of Paks Nuclear Power Plant, we proceed with the co-operation with our partners in TEIT and the information work carried out in relation to the construction and operation of the Interim Spent Fuel Store.
The opening of the show room at PURAM’s Paks Office, resulted in new perspectives for our Agency with regard to the quality of our public relation work. This show room provides a full overview for organised groups, first of all for students, on the national and international practice used in the storage and disposal of radioactive wastes.
